How to Store Coffee Properly

Four simple rules to keep every cup tasting fresh.

Roasted coffee beans stored in an airtight jar

Coffee's worst enemies are air, heat, moisture and light. Keep it away from all four and it will taste better for longer.

The four rules

  • Airtight — keep coffee in a sealed container or reseal the bag tightly.
  • Cool — store it away from the stove, oven or sunny windowsill.
  • Dry — keep it away from moisture and steam.
  • Dark — an opaque container is best.

Avoid strong odours

Coffee easily picks up smells from spices and other foods, so keep it apart from them.

Buy what you will use

Buying a size you can finish in a few weeks means every cup is close to its best.
